KHQ.COM - A 25 Mile Wildfire, located eight miles west of Manson, Washington remains at 2,098 acres in size and 70 percent contained.?
Fire activity and visible smoke has significantly decreased since the human-caused fire ignited on July 4th. However, the fire will not be declared controlled until the area receives significant rain due to the unburned fuel remaining inside the fire boundaries. "There remains to be large pockets of un-burned green brush, grass and small trees within the fire area.
As the weather becomes hotter and drier, there is the potential for these areas to consume, creating visible smoke within the interior portions of the fire," says Incident Commander Chad Schmidt. Fire control lines, constructed over the 5 days, will remain in place.
Isolated smoke may be visible from these pockets of fuel by residents and visitors to the south shore of Lake Chelan as well as from the Grade Creek Road north of the fire area. Visible smoke in the Chelan valley is minimal. Lake Chelan remains open to recreational and commercial boating. Businesses in the Manson, Chelan and Stehekin areas continue to welcome visitors.
Forest Service officials have opened the Mitchell Creek Campground, a boat-in campground located on Lake Chelan, as well as Forest Service Roads 8200 (Grade Creek Road) beyond Antilon Lake and the 8200-117 (Oss Peak Road).?
Fire fighters will continue to perform mop-up operations to accessible areas of the fire and patrol the Forest Service 8200 (Grade Creek Road).?
A red flag warning is in effect through Thursday night for increasing winds and low relative humidity. A red flag warning alerts the public that critical fire weather conditions will be occurring in the local area. As the weather continues to become hotter and drier the public should continue to use care and caution with fire, especially around dry grass and brush.
