The Guardian's sports editor has won a national award for a photo he took during his time with the Kings' County Register in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.

The Canadian Community Newspaper Award for the best sports photo - circulation 4,000 to 12,499 goes to Jason Malloy for a March 2012 photo.

Malloy was the editor of the Advertiser/Register when he shot the image at the Acadia Axewomen's Atlantic conference basketball championship win. Malloy's photo captured Axewomen teammates Jasmine Parent and Abbey Duinker celebrating the victory.

Malloy's win came in the last category left to be announced in this year's CCNAs. He has since left the Advertiser/Register to become editor of The Guardian's sports department.
