Things are about to get RUFF in Hohhot, China, thanks to five new championship belts and a boatload of cash.
RUFF is the only government sanctioned mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion in China and on February 2, 2013, it will crown the first five national champions with each winner walking away with RMB 1,000,000 (160,000 USD) in prize money.
The fighters have been selected over the course of seven RUFF shows which have been held in four cities all over China and four of the five title fights will be rematches with Irshaad Sayed and Jumabieke Tuerxun fighting each other for the third time.
Jumabieke won the first fight by unanimous decision at Top of the Forbidden City Championship in 2011, the rematch took place at RUFF 3 last year and was even closer with the Chinese fighter only winning by split decision this time around.
The third match in the trilogy will be a five rounder with the RUFF bantamweight belt on the line.
RUFF is open to all fighters from China and the Chinese territories area as well as foreign nationals holding a valid work permit in these areas. There are two foreign fighters in the Super Fights with Hong Kong based Brazilian Rodrigo Caporal set to rematch Wu HaoTian for the lightweight belt.
Caporal is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) black belt who has won four fights out of four under the RUFF banner including a second round KO win over HaoTian. That record is surpassed by Jumabieke and Wang Guan,Xi'ian Sports Institute team mates, who both boast 5-0 RUFF records and both will be fighting for the national titles on February 2nd.
At the age of 26 Guan,a featherweight, has a 10-0-1 record which is second only to Jumabieke (14-0) in China. He is going up against Wu Cheng Jie who has been resurgent of late winning three fights out of three for RUFF after a slow start to his MMA career.
The flyweight title match will also see the completion of a trilogy as Liu PingYuan and Zhang MeiXuan meet for the third time inside the RUFF cage with both holding a previous win each. PingYuan made a disappointing start to his MMA career, losing his first four fights but is now riding a four fight win streak while MeiXuan will be looking to register a second win over the only opponent to ever defeat him.
The final fight on the card will be for the light heavyweight title with Zilong Zao rematching Jixiang Li. The first meeting between the two occurred at RUFF 5 and Li won by way of a unanimous decision.
