WASHINGTON (AP) ? South Korean President Park Geun-hye is getting a grand welcome from Congress as Seoul and Washington resolve to stand firm against North Korean provocations.
Park was to address a joint meeting of Congress on Wednesday, a day after she and President Barack Obama urged the North's young leader, Kim Jong Un, to abandon nuclear weapons and rejoin the international community.
The strong message of solidarity was delivered amid signs North Korea was moving to dial down tensions that have escalated since it conducted an underground atomic test in February that drew tightened U.N. sanctions.
Obama declared that the days when the North could win concessions by creating a crisis were over. He said the allies would respond to aggression, but he also endorsed Park's goal of building trust with Pyongyang, as long as it honors international commitments, particularly on denuclearization.
"If what North Korea has been doing has not resulted in a strong, prosperous nation, then now's a good time for Kim Jong Un to evaluate that history and take a different path," Obama told reporters Tuesday as he stood alongside Park. "Should he choose to take a different path, not only President Park and myself would welcome it, but the international community as a whole would welcome it."
Park's attempts to build trust with Pyongyang have gained no traction. Relations have only gotten worse since she took office, two weeks after the latest nuclear test ? the third conducted by the North since 2006.
Pyongyang recently forced the closure of a joint industrial park that was a rare symbol of inter-Korean cooperation.
But in a sign that tensions on the Korean Peninsula could be subsiding, U.S. officials reported Tuesday that North Korea has removed from a launch site two mobile, medium-range ballistic missiles that had been readied for possible test-firing.
Park, daughter of the late South Korean dictator Park Chung-hee, is on her first overseas trip since taking office in late February after winning elections in the now democratic nation, one of Asia's strongest economies.
Her visit also marks the 60th anniversary of the military alliance with the U.S. that maintains 28,500 troops in South Korea.
She becomes the sixth South Korean leader to address a joint meeting of Congress. Her predecessor, Lee Myung-bak, who had an unusually close bond with Obama among foreign leaders, was the last to do so in October 2011. Also Wednesday, Park was to address the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
At Tuesday's news conference, Park said the international community needed to send a firm and consistent message that North Korea's provocations and pursuit of nuclear weapons would not be tolerated, so it would be compelled to change.
She stressed the importance of the role of China, the North's key ally and economic benefactor. In a nod to its new apparent willingness to put pressure on Pyongyang, Park said China was "faithfully implementing" U.N. Security Council resolutions intended to curb the North's pursuit of weapons of mass destruction.
In a significant move, one of China's biggest banks said Tuesday it has halted business with a North Korean bank accused by the U.S. of financing Pyongyang's missile and nuclear programs.

Krasinski: We knew 'The Office' was special

After nine seasons, the time has almost come for the cast of "The Office" to clock out. The last episode of the paper pushing sitcom airs in just two weeks, and according to star John Krasinski, it really is the end of something special.
In fact, during a Monday morning visit to TODAY, the actor who brings Jim Halpert to life, said that he and the rest of the cast realized just how important it was early on.
"The pilot episode was (the British version of 'The Office') word for word, which was a little weird," he recalled. "And then the first original episode we did was 'Diversity Day.' I remember we actually looked around the room as if we were at a Led Zepplin concert or something, and we were like, 'This is really, really special, and so something's going to happen here.'"
And so it did -- especially for Krasinski and co-star Jenna Fischer, who quickly became fan favorites.
"I don't think Jenna and I ever knew what was coming, as far as people not only watching the show, but actually being involved with our characters," Krasinski explained. "That people said, 'My relationship is just like your relationship,' or 'I want a relationship like that,' or 'Oh my God, my boyfriend proposed to me in a similar way!' -- it was just so amazing to be part of a family with our fans."
The family still has a couple of opportunities to get together. An all-new, one-hour episode of "The Office" airs this Thursday at 9 p.m. on NBC. The final episode of "The Office" airs May 16 at 8 p.m.

There was no one in the world quite like Fred Rogers, who often shared that sentiment with his young audience on the long-running PBS show "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood." But if, as Deadline is reporting, a feature biopic is set to be made about Rogers, they're going to have to to find someone at least a little bit like him.
"A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood" (thus far a working title) is a script written by former "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" writer Alexis Jolly, and is currently being put into shape for the eventual film.
"His keen ability to find the good in anyone, or anything, will make for a truly inspiring cinematic experience," producer Justin Nappi told Deadline.
So who among today's leading male lights could play Rogers? On the one hand, he was laid-back and gentle, even childlike, but you never doubted his smarts and ability to get things done. He took kids to the Neighborhood of Make Believe all the time, after all.
We've got a couple of our own ideas of who might work in the role -- Matthew Broderick certainly has a wide-open optimism; Jim Carrey has proved he can carry off sweet, sentimental and funny; Paul Rudd might be on the hunky side but he's got plenty of depth; Neil Patrick Harris still looks young enough to be Doogie Howser and he's witty; "Mad Men's" Vincent Kartheiser has the look down but would need to convince audiences of his sincerity after so many weaselly seasons; and Jim Parsons of "The Big Bang Theory" could channel his nerdy charm into the right combination of empathetic and lighthearted.
Sadly, there's one actor who probably won't be up for the role, despite his repeated appearances on "Saturday Night Live" as Mr. Rogers' urban brother-from-another-mother, Mr. Robinson -- Eddie Murphy. But that'd be for a whole different movie.

Hyundai Motor chief says no plan to build U.S. plant for now
SEOUL (Reuters) - Hyundai Motor Group does not immediately plan to build a new car factory in the United States, Chairman Chung Mong-koo said on Monday, downplaying speculation that the South Korean automaker would soon announce production facilities in the key market.
"We have no plan (for a new U.S. factory) for now," the 75-year-old told reporters at Seoul's Gimpo airport before leaving for the United States.
Hyundai Motor Group is a parent company for Hyundai Motor Co and Kia Motors Corp , which combined are the world's fifth-biggest car company by sales.
Chung, who has so far ruled out major capacity expansion, last week said the company "will look into whether there are opportunities" to expand production overseas, giving rise to industry talk that the automaker was considering building a new plant in the United States.
Chung is expected to visit Hyundai and Kia's U.S. plants in Alabama and Georgia during his visit, which coincides with South Korean President Park Geun-hye's U.S. trip.
Hyundai shares were down 0.5 percent, underperforming a wider market <.ks11> that was up 0.3 percent at 0314 GMT. Kia shares were flat.
Kim Yong-hwan, another senior executive at Hyundai Motor Group, also said on Monday that the company is not seriously considering building a new car factory in the United States.
"We are closely watching the U.S. market situation ... but we are not having an in-depth consideration of a new plant there," he told Reuters.
He said an introduction of a third shift at Hyundai's Alabama plant last year helped ease capacity constraints in the United States.
Analysts have said Hyundai or Kia are likely to soon build a new U.S. plant to address capacity shortages that have hurt their market share and sales this year.
