Norway princess secretly travels to India to play nanny

OSLO (Reuters) - Norway's Crown Princess Mette-Marit secretly traveled to India in order to care for infant twins born to the surrogate mother of a gay palace employee unable to get a travel visa, the palace said on Monday.

Armed with a diplomatic passport that granted her immediate access, the future queen jumped on a plane in late October when the employee, who is also a friend, and his husband were unable to travel to care for their newborns.

"For me, this is about two babies lying alone in a New Delhi hospital," Mette-Marit said in a statement. "I was able to travel and wanted to do what I could."

She did not alert Indian authorities and spent several days with the babies at the Manav Medicare Centre, where staff assumed the wife of Norway's Crown Prince Haakon was a nanny.

While the princess was away, her name continued to appear in the official palace calendar and her absence from a parliamentary dinner was not explained.

A relative of the two fathers eventually took over from Mette-Marit and the fathers received a visa in November, when they brought the babies back to Norway, the palace added.

Surrogacy is a hotly debated issue in Norway and the government discourages Norwegians from paying surrogate parents for children.

Protestant Norway was the second country in the world in 1993 to register same sex partnerships while same sex marriage has been legal since 2009.

The Crown Princess acknowledged the debate and insisted she is not taking a side and only did what a friend had to do.

"Sometimes life presents you with situations with few good solutions. This was one of those," she said. "There is an important debate going on about surrogacy and this was not meant as taking a side."

New Green Office Building Planned in Ciudad Empresarial Complex ...

Not surprising for a country with incredible natural beauty and a booming commercial real estate market, the green construction movement in Chile continues to take root.?? It has been announced that an important sustainable energy office building, the World Green Center, will be constructed in the Ciudad Empresarial in Huechuraba.
?
The building, which will be developed by the Chilean investment firm Aurus and the Ciudad Empresarial and will require an investment of $75 million, is planned to have six floors and floor plans up to 3,600 square meters.?? The building will have 33,900 square meters of floor space.
?
The project will have a number of environmentally friendly features.? According to the Chilean newspaper El Mercurio, the building itself will utilize geothermal energy and the project promoters plan to obtain Gold or Platinum LEED certification for the complex.? The area outside the building is proposed to have 16,500 square meters of green space, including a large number of trees and stepped green terraces.?? It is expected that once construction starts, the complex will take approximately 30 months to build.
?
Apart from the World Green Center, Aurus and the Ciudad Empresarial plan to develop another green project as part of a $150 million, five year development alliance, the Terrazas building.?? The building, which reportedly will be the first building in Chile with a habitable upper rooftop terrace and will also seek LEED certification, will have six floors and require an investment of approximately $21 million.
?
The Ciudad Empresarial, where the World Green Center and the Terrazas building will be located, is a commercial park with more than 50 buildings, including 8 new Class A buildings, and is home to more than 600 companies.?? In total the Ciudad Empresarial has 250,000 square meters of built and space and 10 hectares of green areas.
?
The World Green Center and the Terrazas buildings will not be the first environmentally friendly buildings in Chile.? According to the website of the Green Building Council, there are a number of buildings in Chile with LEED certification, including:
?

• Banco BCI in Vitacura in Santiago (Gold Certification)
• the Transoceanica Business Park in Santiago (Gold Certification)
• the Titanium La Portada in Santiago (Gold Certification)
• Edificio Costanera Cosas in Santiago (Gold Certification)
• Edificio Fundaci?n de la Minera Escondida in Antofagasta (Gold Certification)
• the Homecenter Sodimac in Copiap? (Silver Certification)
• Edificio de la Construcci?n in Puerto Montt (Silver Certification)

?
Green construction is likely to become increasingly important in Chile given Chile's high energy costs.??? Many office buildings in Chile have facades comprised of large glass panels, which result in high cooling bills during Chile's many months of warm weather and numerous days of direct sunlight.

Ashampoo Movie Shrink & Burn 3 Review [giveaway]

Playing video files that you have on your computer on another device, the living room DVD player for instance or your smartphone, is not really that easy of an operation as it should be. The main issue that you can run into here is compatibility. While your PC may play back all video files fine that you throw at it, your smartphone or DVD player won?t as they are expecting files to be in specific formats that they support.

Ashampoo Movie Shrink & Burn is a video converter for PC that you can use to convert videos into different formats, to burn them on disc to play them in hardware DVD players and to prepare them for video hosting sites such as YouTube.

When you start the application you are asked what you would like to do by selecting the device that you want to create movies for: DVD Player, Computer, PDA or Internet. PDA is the closest option to prepare your videos for smartphone playback.

A wizard walks you after selection through the creation process. It is very detailed and while that is good for users who run the program for the first time, I?d wish there was an option to configure everything on a single page or two instead.

If you want to burn videos to play on your DVD Player for instance, you will be guided through the following pages:

• First question is whether you want to burn movies or create movie files. The first creates and burns the DVD, the second only creates the files that you need to burn it.
• Then you are asked about the format that you want the DVD to be in. This includes a standard video DVD that plays on all DVD players and computers, or Video CD, Super Video CD or Divx compatible CD, DVD or Blu-Ray. The compression level and compatibility is displayed on this page as well.
• Once you have made that decision, you are asked to select whether you want it to be PAL or NTSC compatible, and whether you want the files to be available in 4:3 or 16:9 format.
• After having inserted a blank disc into the drive you are taken to the file selection screen where you can add video files that are stored on your local system. This puzzled me a bit as the file browser did not display all supported files by default. I had to switch from ?all supported files? to ?all files? in the browser to see avi files for instance. What I like is that the program will automatically adjust the quality of each video that you add so that your whole selection fits on the disc which means that you can put a lot of videos on a DVD for instance with lower quality, or only some but with closer to their original quality.
• You are then asked to pick a menu theme or disable the menu. A couple of themes are available which all seem to show moving pictures. They look pretty good all in all.

The process of converting and burning the video files did not tax the computer to much and was sufficiently fast. The video and audio were out of sync after the conversion, which again may have been caused by a missing codec. While that is easy enough to fix by adjusting the audio stream accordingly in the program you are using to watch it, it is something that I?d not expect from the program.

The program, from what I can tell, works with MPEG-4, MPEG-2, MPEG-1, Windows Media Video (wmv) and Apple QuickTime (mov) files out of the box. It seems that you need to have a codec installed for other video formats. This should not be a problem on most systems unless you are using a video player with binary codecs like I do.

What appears to be working however is to convert files first into one of the supported formats before you burn them to DVD. While that means an extra step it worked fine for me on the test system.

One interesting option that the program makes available is the ability to split large video files on to multiple DVDs to avoid quality loss.

The Internet conversion options are quite good as they let you convert videos for maximum compatibility with popular video hosting services such as YouTube, Dailymotion or MetaCafe.

Ashampoo Movie Shrink & Burn should work without issues experienced above on most systems. If you are experiencing the issues, try the workaround which should resolve the audio out of sync problem. A couple of features are missing that I?d like to see supported, like support for subtitles or multiple audio tracks.
